Best gear to equip in Hitman 2 featuring essential tools, poisons, and strategies for stealthy and efficient assassinations.

If you’ve spent any time playing Hitman (2016) or Hitman 2, you already know how important your loadout is before starting a mission. Each time you deploy, you can choose two pieces of gear alongside your trusty silenced pistol. While that might not sound like a lot, those two items can completely change how you approach an assassination.

At first, it’s tempting to just pick whatever sounds useful in the moment. Maybe you grab poison, maybe a distraction tool, but the reality is that not every item works in every situation. Some missions require stealth and patience, while others reward creativity and adaptability. That’s why understanding the most versatile and powerful gear in the game is so important.

Instead of guessing what to bring, the best approach is to unlock and rely on tools that consistently give you an advantage no matter the mission. These are items that open up opportunities, create safe eliminations, and help you stay undetected.

Here are seven of the most useful pieces of gear in Hitman, along with how to unlock them and why they deserve a spot in your loadout.

Lockpick Mk II

The Lockpick Mk II is easily one of the most essential tools in the entire game. It allows you to open almost any locked door without needing a key, giving you access to restricted areas that would otherwise require disguises or risky maneuvers.

What makes the lockpick so valuable is its simplicity and reliability. It has unlimited uses, never breaks, and works instantly. This means you can move through levels more freely, take shortcuts, and escape dangerous situations without hesitation.

Unlocking it is very straightforward. All you need to do is reach Mastery Level 2 in Miami. Since this only requires completing the mission once or twice, it’s one of the earliest and most important upgrades you should prioritize.

Once you have it, it will become a permanent part of your loadout for most missions.

Electronic Key Hacker

Think of the Electronic Key Hacker as the lockpick’s high-tech counterpart. While the lockpick handles traditional doors, this gadget allows you to bypass keycard-locked doors and electronic systems.

This opens up a whole new layer of access, especially in high-security areas where keycards are heavily guarded. Instead of hunting down a specific NPC for their card, you can simply hack your way through.

The trade-off is that it has limited uses only three per mission, so you’ll need to be strategic about when you use it. That limitation actually adds to its value, as it forces you to think ahead and plan your route carefully.

To unlock the Electronic Key Hacker, you’ll need to reach Mastery Level 7 in Isle of Sgail. This takes a bit more time and effort, but the payoff is absolutely worth it for the flexibility it provides.

Emetic Pills

Emetic Pills are one of the most powerful stealth tools in the game, especially for players who prefer silent and clean eliminations. When slipped into food or drinks, these pills make the target sick, causing them to leave their current location and head somewhere private.

This creates the perfect opportunity to isolate your target without raising suspicion. Once they’re alone, you can eliminate them quietly and dispose of the body without anyone noticing.

What makes Emetic Pills so effective is how natural they feel within the game’s mechanics. NPCs react realistically, and the situation doesn’t trigger alarms or panic, making it one of the safest ways to set up a kill.

You can unlock Emetic Pills by reaching Mastery Level 7 in Santa Fortuna. It may take a few runs, but it’s a must-have item for any stealth-focused player.

Lethal Pills

Lethal Pills function similarly to Emetic Pills but with a much more direct outcome. Instead of making the target sick, they immediately kill anyone who consumes them.

This makes them incredibly useful when you want a quick, discreet elimination without needing to follow the target or set up a secondary action. Simply poison a drink or meal, and your job is done.

They’re especially helpful in situations where isolating a target is difficult or risky. However, you’ll still need to be careful about where and when you use them, as suspicious behavior or witnesses can still compromise your mission.

To unlock Lethal Pills, you’ll need to reach Mastery Level 7 in Whittleton Creek. Like most mastery rewards, it takes some time, but it’s well worth the effort.

Sieker 1

The Sieker 1 is essentially a ranged version of Emetic Pills, and it’s one of the most versatile tools in the game. This dart gun allows you to make NPCs sick from a distance, which is incredibly useful in crowded or heavily guarded areas.

Instead of trying to poison food or drinks, you can simply shoot your target discreetly and wait for them to leave the area. From there, you can follow them to a secluded spot and take them out safely.

This tool opens up creative possibilities that aren’t available with standard poison items. It’s especially useful when targets don’t interact with food or when you don’t have easy access to their routine.

The downside is that it’s one of the harder items to unlock. You’ll need to reach Mastery Level 10 in Haven Island, and it requires access to the DLC. Still, if you can get it, it’s easily one of the best tools in the game.

Coins

Coins might seem simple, but they are one of the most effective tools you have from the very beginning. You start with three coins, and they can be used to distract NPCs by throwing them to create noise.

This allows you to lure guards away from their posts, create openings, or manipulate NPC movement in subtle ways. Coins are incredibly versatile and can be used in almost any situation.

They’re especially useful for new players who are still learning how NPC behavior works. With a bit of practice, you can use coins to control entire areas without ever being seen.

Despite being a basic item, coins remain useful throughout the entire game and should never be overlooked.

Fiber Wire

The Fiber Wire is one of the most iconic tools in the Hitman series. It allows you to silently eliminate targets at close range while maintaining complete control over the situation.

Using the Fiber Wire is not only effective but also rewarding. It often grants bonus points for clean kills and fits perfectly with a stealth-focused playstyle. It’s quick, quiet, and leaves minimal evidence when used correctly.

Since you start the game with it, there’s no need to unlock it, but mastering its use is key. Pairing it with distraction tools like coins can make it even more effective, allowing you to isolate and eliminate targets with precision.

It’s a classic for a reason, and it remains one of the most satisfying tools to use in the game.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right gear in Hitman isn’t just about preference it’s about strategy. The items you bring into a mission can determine how smoothly everything goes, from infiltration to extraction.

While there’s no single perfect loadout for every situation, these seven tools consistently provide value across different missions and playstyles. Whether you’re sneaking through restricted areas, setting up silent eliminations, or creating distractions, having the right gear makes all the difference.

As you continue to play and unlock more items, you’ll start to develop your own preferred loadouts. But if you’re ever unsure what to bring, these are some of the best options to fall back on.
