If you are like me, then you are a sucker for open-world games, and while when it comes to free games. I’ll be honest here, the search for good quality ones is hard, but I was actually very impressed with some of the open-world games I was able to find.
So I really recommend looking at all of the games, because all of them really just downright need more credit for how good they are.
10. Undefeated
So starting out the list, we have Undefeated. Now, I wanna mention that this game isn’t very long at all. It’ll probably take you an hour to beat at most, but don’t let that turn you away from it.
It has a lot of replayability and I really wanted this on the list because I had a lot of fun playing it.
Essentially, this game places you as a hero in this small city and your goal, or goals, are to save the various citizens around the map, while also taking out the enemies.
The reason this game deserves a spot on this list is that the game feels so good. The flying and superhero gameplay is about as good as you can get.
I could honestly just sit for a few hours just flying around punching stuff and have a good time doing it. I think the developers really put a lot of time into making a kind of showcase for how good the mechanics are.
I know it’s a short one but I think this one is worth a try because of how impressive the game feels and I personally had a lot of fun playing it.

9. Dead Frontier 2
Okay, so I have Dead Frontier 2 as the next game on the list. This game’s gameplay reminded me a lot of Resident Evil.
The side shoulder view and the whole zombie premise, it surprisingly felt good. Obviously, it isn’t as refined as something like Resident Evil, but the game feels good and takes a lot of inspiration from those types of games.
The basic premise of the game is you start out in a room with other survivors and explore the map, which basically consists mostly of city, to gather resources.
There isn’t any base-building but more of a looter type. There are safe zones and also PvP zones where you can kill other players for their loot.
I will say that the map is kinda lacking and at times it feels like a copy and paste of each building. Each building almost always seems completely symmetrically spaced from the next. It’s kinda weird but you get over it and when you get to the outer city limits it gets a little more interesting.
There are four outposts where you can trade, buy, and store items. Every 4 or so hours, one of the outposts will be attacked by the zombies and if you fail to defend it, that outpost will close down for an hour or so.
The game is pretty basic in terms of gameplay but I found it a lot of fun exploring the different buildings and looting dead bodies.

8. Trove
Trove is another MMO, but a lot different than Conquerors Blade.
With Trove, you do a lot more looting and exploring the different realms. There are a lot of different realms and each of them comes with their different enemy types and areas.
Now, starting out in the game it can get overwhelming with the amount of stuff you can do, but eventually, when you get the hang of it, you can easily pour 60 hours into the game.
You can build your home and bring it with you wherever you go with these land plot areas, and when you really get into exploring you find caves and dungeon areas so you can clear them out and get loot.
Trove also has a lot of different classes you can play as, and as you progress, you unlock those higher-level realms and get into the really interesting stuff.

7. Defiance
So, Defiance is kind of a mixed bag in terms of the reception of the game. Some people love it, and some people think it turned into a cash grab.
Now, why is that? Well, the game used to be a paid game, and I think it was around $20-30, but, eventually, the devs made it free-to-play. And we all know that with that free-to-play title, come loot boxes and paid content.
If you didn’t buy the game previously then this game is a solid one. It has a lot of story that is based around it and If you check steam, some people have upwards of 2,000 hours in the game.
The story was pretty interesting from what I’ve played and it gave me kind of a third-person Halo vibe.
Essentially you and other players roam the map and do various missions and take down outposts in the destroyed remains of the earth.
You can play with other friends to scavenge the world or you can play alone, but ultimately you are all competing to gain the technology from the aliens to progress in the game.
Regardless of the negative feedback from the game, I think this is a good game. The combat feels pretty good and you also can get a whole list of different skills and abilities that mix up the gameplay.

6. Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game I felt really deserved to be on this list. The game is absolutely huge and it does a good service to Star Wars fans.
If you don’t know what this game is, imagine being able to start a journey and choosing whether you want to be apart of the dark or light side and whether you want to be a Bounty Hunter, Jedi, Sith, Trooper, and the list goes on and on.
The game still has a massive community that is surprisingly dedicated to the game, even after years and years of playing it.
You start your own story-driven journey and each class has a different story. So the number of options and outcomes is a big number.
There are over 20 different planets to explore, with countless types of missions and story elements.
This game is absolutely insane, with the amount of content it has. Keep in mind that it’s an MMO RPG so it’ll feel a little different than usual if you aren’t familiar with how these games work.

5. Totally Reliable Delivery Service
If you’ve ever played Human Fall flat, Gang Beast, or Goat Simulator, then you’ll probably have an idea of how this game feels.
Keep in mind that this is the free beta version of the game because the full game is set to release in 2021.
So, Totally Reliable Delivery Service places you in this city where your main goal is to deliver packages. Obviously, you know this is going to be difficult because of the ragdoll physics.
There are different types of deliveries, some are timed and some are damage based, and the better the score you get when you deliver, the more points you get.
The game allows you to play with friends but it’s kinda weird right now. You can only join with remote play. Basically, you play with a split-screen through your steam.
The map has a lot of cool locations and things to do like flying planes or boating around.

4. Unturned
Of course, I needed to put Unturned on this list. So, Unturned is a free to play zombie survival game with base building and raiding.
I compare it a lot to the likes of Rust and DayZ.
It’s like DayZ in that you fight all kinds of zombies and explore the city and rural type areas for loot.
It’s like Rust in that you build your base up and secure it from getting raided, but at the same time you plan and map out your way to raid other neighboring bases for their loot.
In a lot of ways, it’s the best of both worlds, and obviously, the game looks like a Roblox and pixel 3D mash-up, but if you can get past the graphics of the game, it’s a lot of fun.

3. Conquerors Blade
Getting down to the last three games on the list, we have Conquerors Blade. I feel for some people this could be their favorite game on the list.
The game is an MMO open-world game set in medieval times. You build up your own unique army and work towards conquering as many lands and kingdoms as you can.
The battles are these big set-piece battles with multiple other allies joining you in the siege. It can get pretty chaotic sometimes but that just makes it more fun.
You command your troops to do specific actions while you are in a battle and slowly gain ground when pushing through the enemy lines.
The battle mechanics in this game blew me away and I was very impressed, and not even just the battles, but the character combat.
Starting out you get a feel for each of the weapon types. Each has its strengths and they all feel really different.
Once you get established you grow your kingdom and eventually establish trade routes and alliances to gain the upper hand.

2. Realm of The Mad God Exalt
Getting down to the end of this list I have Realm of The Mad God Exalt for the number 2 spot. Other than having a weird name that I always seem to forget, the game is awesome.
I was not expecting to have this much fun with this game but I was really surprised.
The game is an open-world MMO in a retro 8-bit art style. What really caught me off guard when looking into this game is that the game actually came out in early 2012, but recently got ported over this year.
So what’s this little pixel game got to offer? Well, the game places you in this massive realm with other players and you explore the world and gather loot.
And yeah, that sounds similar to some of the other games on the list but I honestly love the 8-bit style and the game has a ton of content.
Going into a hidden cave and clearing all the enemies out feels so satisfying and the loot you get feels really rewarding.
You have a whole list of different classes to choose from and also, the game is also a permadeath game so if you die you need to start over.
That never bothered me, though, because it always feels good to go back out in the realm and work your way back up. The game is a lot of fun and it has a big map so there isn’t any lack of locations or things to do.

1. Creativerse
Okay and for the number 1 spot I have Creativerse, and I think it’s important to know why I chose this game as the number 1 pick.
First I wanna be honest and say that I’m not too big a fan of Minecraft or Minecraft like games. Not to say I don’t like survival building games, because I do, but those games that are basically Minecraft with a different skin.
Now, starting out in Creativerse, I immediately knew it was different. The whole mining part of the game is different. You start out with a gauntlet type thing where you can suck up materials right when you start out.
You progress to upgrade your gauntlet and the cool thing is is that you don’t need different types for different material categories. That one gauntlet is all you need.
Also, this was weird for me at first but I eventually began to like it. You have two modes that you play in. The first-person mode which is your mining mode and probably the one you’ll be in most of the time, and the third-person mode which is used if you want to attack.
As I said, at first it felt super odd, but it really works. Third-person is great when you are fighting and the animations are cool too.
Getting into the atmosphere of the game, it’s really intriguing actually. The animals are weird and alien-like, and at night the sky is all lit up.
The game allows you to have either a creative or a survival server, and if you want more than one you need to pay for it.
Now, at first, this sounds crazy but it’s worth noting that the server that you get can be a legitimate server that you can have as a community server.
Meaning that if you wanted it to be public and open for anyone in the community to join then you can do that.
These also aren’t the only two modes, you can also play other people’s games too. Not just creative and survival but some are called adventures where you play different types of game modes.
There is just so much in this game and so much of it is done so well. This game is an absolute must try and it surprises me that so much is offered while being completely free.
