I will be explaining how to build the fastest, easiest, and cheapest shooting floor in Rust. This will be something you can include in your starter base and does not need any items from the workbench.
Step 1 - Building the Base
First, you will need to gather materials and build your base. I usually just start with a general 2x2 base setup. However, you can make it bigger or smaller, whatever your landscape allows.
Next, you will need to build your base upwards. You can make this as high as you want but I recommend at least 2 to 4 walls high. The higher you make your base the less stable the walls will be which means the easier the walls can be destroyed. You also have to take into account the building materials and overall upkeep.
Step 2 - Building the Shooting Floor
Next, you will need to add triangles to the outer edges of your square base. In the corners, you usually add a triangle and a square, but instead, you will just add 2 triangles. In the middle, there will be a small gap to see below you.
Next, you add windows or walls to the outside of the shooting floor, it is up to you. I do recommend adding windows and eventually Metal Vertical embrasures, once you are able to craft them in a workbench, to help you see a 360-degree view around your base.
Step 3 - Constructing the Shooting Ports
There are many different options you can do in the corners of the shooting floor:
- Single door facing the outside
- Single door facing the inside
- Double door
- Two double doors
And you can add double doors to the other side of the single doors.
I have found it best to use a single door facing the outside with a double door on the other side. This ensures that no one can jump down into your base and that you will not fall down when peaking out of the gap. The single door also gives you cover from the front but still has a small gap to peak. The only issue is that you will have to close the double doors behind you so you can easily crossover the floor gap unless you made the double door open the opposite way.
Tips and Tricks
- When you are not using the shooting ports or when you log off you should shut the doors to ensure no one jumps into the ports and gets access to your base.
- Once you get your workbenches set up, you can place shotgun traps on the ceilings in front of the double doors so that when they are shut you will have even more protection and they will be hidden.
- Another item you can craft is Metal Shop Fronts and garage doors for the inside of your shooting floor so that snipers can't get you when just walking around.
