Top 10 Best Free FPS Games on Steam

10. Argo

This is a game by Bohemian Interactive, the creators of the Arma series. The game was originally named Project Argo, but was then changed to just Argo when it was released. It is less realistic than Arma, but it is still very team based. There are 2 teams, and they are fighting over the remnants of a crashed space station.

It is actually a pretty cool idea and the lore is also pretty interesting. The gunplay isn’t the best I have seen, but ultimately, it is a great shooter that deserves to be on this list, partially because of the Developers behind it. If you like any of the Arma, games, try this game if you haven’t already, it has some great moments that make for an enjoyable experience.

9. Hired Ops

At first glance it might seem like a mobile game to the average gamer, but once you start to play it, it is much different than you think. The few matches I played of this game, I generally enjoyed them.

The gunplay feels pretty good for a free game, and the people weren’t tryhards you get in Triple A games. There isn’t much to say about his game other than just try it because that is the only way you will find a great free FPS that you really like.

8. Line of Sight

I apparently have played this game years ago, but I just totally forgot about it. I do have to say I am not a huge fan of the way you purchase the weapons in this game, but once I booted up my first match, it was very fun. I have been very impressed with how these smaller companies are creating their weapon mechanics.

It makes me happy to see them putting in a ton of work into their games and seeing how the community supports them. This game in particular is very fun and is worth playing if you like FPSs.

7. Black Squad

This game is very polished. What I mean by that is the fact that it plays very smoothly. The graphics in the game are pretty decent as well, I mean it is a free game, but I was genuinely impressed by it. The menu is a little better on this game and it doesn’t look like a mobile game, but it does have loot boxes.

Free games will always run into this problem because so many companies need to make money so they put paid content into the game, but loot boxes in my opinion are a terrible way to do it. In this game though, I didn’t really notice it too much because the gameplay makes up for everything else.

6. Warface

Players can choose between five different classes: Sniper, Rifleman, Engineer, Medic, or SED. Each class has its own specific combat role, with Medics reviving fallen and healing injured teammates, Engineers restoring and repairing armor, Riflemen providing additional ammunition, SED’s for suppressive fire and eliminating large groups of enemies, and Snipers for engaging in long-range firefights.

It is a fun FPS even if you play solo or with friends and it can also be played on Nintendo Switch. It doesn’t have cross-play so you can’t play with each other on different systems, but it is still a fun FPS.

5. Ironsight

I am actually super impressed with this game. Mightycasub actually put this game in another video of his but I am going to put it in mine because of how awesome it is. It is a Call of Duty clone, but they did a great job at duplicating the system that COD has.

The guns feel great, the movement is great, and even the maps are great. If you like Call of DUty, then this game is definitely for you if you want something free and new. It is totally worth your time.

4. Quake Champions

I would say this is a multiplayer Doom. It is insanely fast-paced, and it is actually very fun. When it was first released, it was planned to be a paid game, but the developers decided that they were going to take it free-to-play. Basically, you get an arsenal of weapons like rocket launchers, machine guns, and shotguns, and you quickly race around an arena and try to eliminate as many people as you possibly can.

If you have ever played any of the old Quake games, it is pretty much a new multiplayer version of the games with great graphics. I would say that they did a great job with this game and you need to try this game at least once to see if you like it. I would say if you like Doom, then you will like this game.

3. Splitgate: Arena Warfare

This is one of the most unique shooters I have seen in a long time. You could say it was Halo and Portal mixed into one, but it is different than that as well. There is so much you can do in this game, with all the different ways to play I mean.

As you can see in the footage, you can literally play however you want and you can still do well. What I like about the game is the fact that you can pretty much have your own way of playing and everyone that does play does it differently. Keep in mind that it does take time to get used to it just like any other game so don’t rage quit on your first match.

It takes time to learn new games, but this game is great and it is free so look it up on Steam and try it for yourself.

2. Fistful of Frags

Fistful of Frags is a multiplayer Western Half-Life 2 first-person shooter mod that takes part in frenzy team versus shootouts or cooperative games against AI managed enemies. Games may be free-for-all or have up to 4 teams: Desperados, Vigilantes, Rangers, or Banditos.

Factions are represented on the scoreboard and in various parts of the HUD by the colors: Blue for Vigilantes, red for Desperados, green for Rangers, and yellow for Banditos. Though the four factions are distinct in look and team color, there is no difference between each faction in gameplay.

It is a pretty fun game and one of the easiest to run on this list. It is also one of the oldest on the list, but that does not mean it is a bad game. Sometimes old games can be better than new ones.

1. Dirty Bomb

This is a game that is near and dear to me because it was one of my first FPS games that I really got into. At the time, my computer was absolute garbage, but the game ran absolutely fine for me.

You can choose characters within the game, similarly to Rainbow Six: Siege, and then you can customize each of your weapons to be however you want them to be. The gameplay is actually very smooth and the guns just feel amazing. It is the best free FPS game on Steam in my opinion, and is a must try for anyone who likes FPS games.

There are also a bunch of game modes in the game so if you get bored of one, you can just play another one. My favorite part of this game is how you can have more fun in smaller developed games than in a triple A studio game. It seems that smaller developers try to give you the best experience while bigger ones try to get the most money out of you. Try Dirty Bomb, its a great shooter.
