Terraria on the surface looks like just any other 2D survival game, but we are here to tell you that the game is a lot bigger than you think it is.
For people who have played Terraria before, you know what we mean when we say that there is a ton of content to enjoy. For new players, you might not even know where to start when you boot the game up for the first time.
So we are going to give you some beginner's tips on what you should do first in Terraria.
Step 1 - Build a House for you and the NPCs
The first step is to build a house. Chop down all the trees in your area and build a house for you and your NPC buddies. Create a workbench and place it down.
This will let you craft doors, tables, chairs, and all sorts of furniture. Each NPC will also need a room. You can make a room for each NPC, and they each need at least a Torch, Table, and Chair in the room for them to move in.
Also, keep in mind that you will need to put walls in the house, and you can craft those from the Workbench. Once you build a room for yourself and 4-5 NPC rooms, you can move on to the next step.
Step 2 - Find a Cave and start exploring it
The second step is to start exploring. There are a few ways you can go about this. You can either run left or right and figure out what each direction has for you, or you can find a cave and start spelunking underground.
There is always a Dungeon, Jungle, and Corruption or Crimson in each world, and exploring the surface will show you where each one is.
Spelunking is by far the most useful thing you can do since that is what most of the game is about. You can find Heart Crystals that will permanently increase your health pool.
There are Underground Cabins that will have insanely good loot for you to use. There are also full minecart systems that you can use to get around faster. Just explore everything you can so you are prepared for the next step.
Step 3 - Find or Craft new gear to fight Bosses
The final step on learning how to play is to get new gear. As you explore the Cave system, you can find ores like Iron or Gold, and you need to mine everything you can.
Once you get the Ores, you can smelt them in a furnace and create armor and weapons with them at an Anvil. Once you are kitted out with new gear, you can head to one of the first bosses.
You can fight the Eye of Cthulhu by finding 6x Lenses from Demon Eyes and crafting a spawner at a Demon Altar, or just waiting for the boss to randomly spawn at night.
The Eater of World or Brain of Cthulhu can be fought by finding the respective underground Corruption or Crimson and breaking 3 of the Orbs. These are the bosses you should start with since they drop materials for the next gear set.
