Mohg Elden Ring

How to Get to Mohg in Elden Ring

Mohg, Lord of Blood, is a powerful optional boss in Elden Ring, located in Mohgwyn Palace. Reaching him requires traveling to a hidden area that can be accessed in two ways: through a secret portal in the Consecrated Snowfield or via an NPC questline. Mohg is a challenging fight, especially in his second phase, where he inflicts the dangerous Bloodflame Curse. Before heading to him, ensure you are well-prepared with high resistance to bleeding and powerful weapons or spells.

Reaching Mohgwyn Palace Through the Consecrated Snowfield

The most direct way to reach Mohg is by finding a hidden teleporter in the Consecrated Snowfield. To access this area, you must first acquire both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which allows you to use the Grand Lift of Rold to enter the hidden region. One-half of the medallion is found in the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia of the Lakes, given by Albus, a disguised NPC. The other half is obtained from Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants, after defeating Commander Niall.

Once in the Consecrated Snowfield, head southwest until you encounter a group of Albinauric enemies surrounding a blood-red portal. This teleporter leads directly to Mohgwyn Palace. After arriving, navigate through the palace grounds, defeating enemies such as Albinauric warriors and blood mages. The path eventually leads to Mohg’s boss arena deep within the palace.

Accessing Mohgwyn Palace Through White Mask Varre’s Questline

An alternative way to reach Mohg is by completing the questline of White Mask Varre, an NPC first encountered at the Rose Church in Liurnia. He will ask you to invade other players three times using Festering Bloody Fingers. After completing this task, he provides you with the Lord of Blood’s Favor, which must be soaked in the blood of a maiden.

Once the favor is soaked, Varre grants you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which can be used to teleport directly to Mohgwyn Palace. This method allows early access to the area, making it ideal for players who want to reach Mohg before exploring the Consecrated Snowfield.

Navigating Mohgwyn Palace

After entering the palace, the path forward involves traversing a dark cave filled with dangerous blood-drinking enemies. Exiting the cave leads to the palace ruins, where Albinauric warriors and blood mages guard the area. The path up to Mohg’s boss room is littered with tough enemies, so moving cautiously or using Torrent to bypass them can be effective. At the top of the palace, Mohg’s arena awaits, where you will face him in one of the most intense fights in Elden Ring.

How to Defeat Mohg in Elden Ring

Mohg, Lord of Blood, is one of the most challenging optional bosses in Elden Ring. His powerful blood-based attacks and dangerous second phase make him a formidable foe. Understanding his move set and preparing accordingly is key to victory.

Preparing for the Fight

Before facing Mohg, it is crucial to equip gear that resists bleed and fire damage. His Bloodflame abilities deal both types of damage, making talismans like the Flame, Drake Talisman +2 and Lord of Blood’s Exultation useful. The latter increases your attack power whenever blood loss occurs, which can be used to your advantage if you inflict bleed on him.

A critical item for this fight is Mohg’s Shackle, found in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds beneath Leyndell. This item can temporarily stun Mohg during his first phase, giving you a valuable opening to attack. Additionally, using Purifying Crystal Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick can negate the damage from his dangerous curse ability in the second phase. This tear is obtained by defeating Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, at the Second Church of Marika.

Phase One: Mohg, Lord of Blood

In the first phase, Mohg wields his trident and attacks with sweeping strikes, bloodflame magic, and an overhead slam that creates pools of blood. He frequently throws bloodflame at the ground, which ignites and lingers, forcing players to reposition. His trident attacks have deceptive reach, so dodging sideways rather than backward is the best way to avoid them.

The best strategy for this phase is to stay mobile and attack during his recovery windows. Mohg’s Shackle can be used twice in this phase to immobilize him, allowing for free damage. Players using ranged attacks should stay just outside his melee range and strike after he finishes a spell or heavy attack.

Phase Two: The Blood Curse Ritual

At around 50% health, Mohg begins chanting "Tres, Duo, Unus" (Three, Two, One), marking the start of his blood curse ritual. After finishing the chant, he deals three unavoidable bursts of damage while healing himself. The Purifying Crystal Tear negates this damage entirely if used before the ritual begins. Without it, using a Flask of Crimson Tears immediately after each burst is necessary to survive.

In this phase, Mohg gains wings and becomes more aggressive. He now leaves trails of fire with his weapon swings, performs rapid teleportation, and creates bloodflame explosions that cover large areas. Staying on the move is crucial, as his trident swings now have extended combos that are harder to predict.

Best Strategy to Win

Melee players should focus on staying behind Mohg and attacking when he finishes a move. Jumping over his bloodflame puddles helps avoid unnecessary damage. Bleed weapons such as Rivers of Blood or Bloodhound’s Fang can be effective, as Mohg is not immune to blood loss himself.

Magic users should use spells like Rock Sling or Comet Azur, as they can be cast from a distance and deal significant damage during his attack recoveries. Spirit Ashes like Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche can help distract him, making it easier to land attacks.

Avoiding his fire trails and reacting quickly to his teleportation attacks will determine the fight’s outcome. With the right preparation and patience, Mohg can be defeated, granting access to Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear and his powerful blood-based incantations.
